Thanking God for Michael

Michael and I met when I was 16 and he was 17. We worked together at the same restaurant and began dating.

Three years later (September 5, 1970) when I was barely 19 and he was barely 20, we were married.

When I read the statistics, our marriage was destined for failure--but we celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary last month!

Marriage is always a union of two selfish people. And Michael and I are no different--we've had our ups and downs, our sorrows and differences, our disappointments and failures.

The thing is, I know that we'd never have made it if we both hadn't fallen in love with Someone else. And loving that Someone else (whose name is Jesus) has given both of us the power we've needed to continually withstand the bad times, deal with our selfishness on a daily basis, and keep forgiving each other.

Michael is truly my best friend--a closer friend to me now than at any other time in our lives. I really admire and respect him, and I appreciate the way he has put up with my many faults throughout the years.
